60-second self-experiment

Experience, with your eyes closed, what it’s like to browse a website full of barriers

In 60 seconds you’ll hear how millions of people experience the web every day – instead of seeing it. Choose your device and we’ll show you briefly how.

Keyboard only – no screen reader needed

Just press the Tab key and feel your way through the images. Each time, we fade in what a blind person would hear at this point.
Wrong alt text: cat.jpgYes, that’s how an image without good alt text sounds: one word, and you haven’t got a clue. Now the right way, drum roll please:Correct alt text:With the innocence of an angel, a cat nudges a brimming, steaming cup of coffee millimetre by millimetre towards the edge of the table. The abyss awaits. The cat regrets nothing.
Wrong alt text: button1.jpgWonderfully informative, thanks a lot. What this "graphic" conceals: a huge blue "Buy now" button – built as a plain image and therefore completely mute to a screen reader. Click here and you’re buying a pig in a poke. A real shot in the dark.Correct alt text:A clearly labelled "Buy now" button that every screen reader announces as a button.
Wrong alt text: womanlaptop.jpgAs thrilling as a tax form. And now, how it should be:Correct alt text:A blind customer adds three items to her basket entirely on her own – no asking, no waiting for help. In the background you can see the cat on the table. The cup is gone; in its place, a small lake of coffee on the table.
Wrong alt text: guiltyconscience.jpgOne word that explains nothing – and yet already stings a little. Now for real:Correct alt text:A business owner looks at his own website, and beside him sits the cat, gazing at him expectantly – the way only a cat can look when it knows perfectly well there’s still something to be done. Accessibility isn’t magic, just a few right touches – for everyone who drops by your site. And for a clear conscience: Greenlight Check.

Tip: on your phone, just tap the image one after another; on a computer, press the Tab key – step by step, what a screen reader reads out at this point fades in: first the wrong alt text (just the filename), then the correct one. With a mouse, click the fields.

What you’ve just experienced decides, for over 300,000 blind and partially sighted people in Switzerland, whether they can take part with you. We help you make that possible.

Three steps to an accessible website

Check

Test your website for accessibility. Start for free with the Mini-Check; for the full overview the Standard audit report, and the Greenlight seal comes with the Complete audit report (incl. 12 months’ seal subscription free).

Implement

Use the report yourself or hand it to your webmaster – point by point, to make your website accessible to people with disabilities.

Stay accessible (optional)

Keep your website accessible for the long term with our subscription services – we monitor it continuously and flag new barriers.

Your website – usable by more people. Ready in good time for 2027.

Accessible means: people with a visual, hearing or mobility impairment can also find their way around your website with ease. That’s good for everyone who visits you – and for online shops and other sales websites it will, under the revised Disability Equality Act (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz, BehiG), even become mandatory, expected from 1 January 2027. We audit your site automatically and show you in plain terms where barriers still exist – so that you can act in good time.

What we stand for

An accessible website isn’t a tiresome obligation – it’s good for everyone who drops by, and good for you. Both matter.

We help people take part

The internet belongs to everyone. Anyone with a visual, hearing, motor or cognitive impairment should be able to find their way around your website just like anyone else – reading, understanding, getting in touch, buying. Accessibility opens your site to around 1.7 million people in Switzerland who would otherwise be defeated by barriers.

We get you ready for the Disability Equality Act

From 2027, the revised Disability Equality Act places greater obligations on private providers too – online shops first. Those who start early spread the effort and avoid costly last-minute changes. We find your problem areas now – so that you’re ready in good time.

Does this apply to my website too?

In short: everyone benefits – some need to pay particular attention.

Every website gets better

Whether you’re a practice, a trade business, an association, a restaurant or a portfolio: anyone who visits your site should be able to find their way around with ease. Accessibility makes your content clearer, your site easier to find and usable on every device – quite apart from the law. Almost every website has small barriers without knowing it – our free Mini-Check shows you within minutes where you stand.

Online shops have more obligations

For online shops and other sales websites, accessibility becomes binding under the revised Disability Equality Act from 2027 – this also includes sites that handle bookings, reservations or sales online. And because such sites are constantly changing – new products, promotions, theme updates – new barriers arise there particularly quickly. That’s why we audit them particularly thoroughly.

How it works

No appointment, no consultation, no agency project. You get a clear result and know exactly what to do.

1

Enter your address

You give us the address of your website. That’s all we need – we audit from the outside via the public address.

2

Automated in-depth audit

Our audit engine tests your site against the WCAG 2.2 criteria (A/AA) on which the Disability Equality Act’s requirements are based.

3

An easy-to-understand report

You receive your defects prioritised by importance – with concrete instructions that you or your web designer can implement directly.

The essentials in brief

The key points on accessibility – expandable, without lengthy searching.

From when does the obligation apply in Switzerland?

The revised Disability Equality Act is expected to place greater obligations on private providers too from 2027 – online shops and booking services first. Those who start early spread the effort and avoid costly last-minute changes.

Who does it actually apply to?

The focus is on services that handle purchases, bookings or reservations online. Purely informational and presentational sites are less central – but being accessible still pays off for them.

What is audited?

We audit against the internationally recognised standard WCAG 2.2 (levels A and AA) – the same basis on which the Disability Equality Act builds. This includes, among other things, image text, contrasts, labels, structure and keyboard operability.

What does it cost?

The Mini-Check is free and without obligation. The Standard audit report costs CHF 249, the Complete audit report with certificate and Greenlight seal CHF 790 (incl. 12 months of seal subscription free) – both a fraction of what a full agency audit charges. From every report sold, a fixed share goes to organisations that support people with disabilities.

What’s in it for me?

An accessible website opens up to around 1.7 million people in Switzerland who would otherwise be defeated by barriers. It’s also easier to find, comes across as more professional and is more pleasant for all visitors to use.

Is the report a legally binding proof?

No – and you should be sceptical of anyone who promises you that. Our report is an honest technical audit in line with WCAG, not an official certification and not a full conformity assessment in line with EN 301 549. Where such a formal assessment is required, we tell you so openly.

Why Greenlight Check?

Because "make it accessible" is not a brief but a wish. Your webmaster can fix it – we tell them what exactly, audit independently and provide the proof.

  • A clear specification sheet instead of guesswork: every defect, by priority, with concrete instructions.
  • An independent check – your webmaster is an interested party, we are not.
  • Fixed costs and sign-off instead of an open-ended webmaster bill, free re-test included.
  • No webmaster needed: clear instructions that you can often implement yourself in your shop system.
  • Visible proof: seal and monitoring, which an internal assurance cannot provide.
  • A fraction of the cost: the Standard audit report (CHF 249) focuses the expensive work – instead of blindly investing developer hours.
